Tired: complaining about AMP emails

Wired: blacklisting all incoming text/html emails

@sir only accepting emails in application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document from now on

@ben all emails should be sent as application/ and executed with wine upon arrival to display the email

@sir inspired: sending a bounceback message saying why?

(genuine question, i guess, can that be done?)

@sir No, why.
The fact that HTML in e-mail is often abused doesn't mean that plain text should be the only allowed format.

Block MIME, block PGP e-mails… sounds like despair.

@amiloradovsky I didn't say that plain text should be the only allowed format...

@mararm well, the specific examples, like PGP signatures, are definitely worthwhile

@lain come to think of it, I don't think there's actually an RFC for HTML emails. At least, I haven't seen it. And it would basically involve "read the entire WhatWG spec for HTML and CSS, then stick it in an email and exercise discretion to avoid the thousands of vulnerabilities you'd introduce by implementing it faithfully"

@sir text/markdown emails should be a thing

@niklaskorz though only a subset of the markdown spec would be appropriate

@sir Yup, it's already getting tricky with images, considering 1px tracking gifs etc
