In case you're also interested in niche operating systems and are also disenthused by the fact that most of them are hot garbage, I will provide my list of interesting operating systems projects:

- 9front (<3)
- RedoxOS
- ReactOS
- ToaruOS
- Haiku*
- Sortix
- Genode*
- SerenityOS*

* Caveat: heavily involve C++ for some fucking reason

@sir not temple/shrine OS? :P
I'm really interested in checking out 9front but I'm intimidated by plan9 and don't know where to start with it.

@nihilazo slap it on an old thinkpad (read the FQA's hardware compat list for buying advice) and walk through the FQA

Then just, like, use it for a bit, idk, like a normal OS

@sir wow im surprised to see redox on this list seeing how much you hate rust. am i thinking of a different redox?

@jaxter184 I hate C++ more than I hate Rust and yet there are still C++ projects listed here

Just means I won't contribute to them and probably won't use them for more than 15 minutes

@jaxter184 my basic criteria for this list is (1) FOSS (2) has made significant progress (3) seem to be taking it seriously and isn't written by complete dipshits

@username nonfree projects can get fucked as far as I'm concerned

@sir only the 64bit is proprietary, 32bit is opensource (GPL)

Sure the move is strange.

There is also a fork https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KolibriOS
yerk! KolibriOS team use Facebook group and SVN. My apologies @sir

@sir
The only thing I know about ToaruOS is it is the basis for PonyOS

@sir are *BSDs not niche for you - at least more exotic ones, such as DragonflyBSD? (I won't call the bigger ones: FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD niche, but the rest?)
