Whoever designed the "pay us please" page for gab is an incompetent and here is a quick explanation of why people look at professional's works before going full Apple mode on it, if they want to do it themselves.

On top of that I'd like to let everyone know I have very mixed feelings about that Helvetica Neue. The font files and filenames match perfectly to the original, hosted on font.net (now Fonts.com), except it's also widely available even on several GitHub repositories and since that paragraph is the only place I could find it used on the entire website I doubt they paid the hefty price of 315$ per font (thin, semibold and bold, although the latter is not used) per CPU core (that's how Fonts.net handles server licenses), so shy of 1200$ per CPU core on EACH of their servers.

If you are into numbers, I attached a screenshot of how much money they owe Fonts.net, again on the well funded opinion that they simply stole those.

@hellpie who the fuck charges for fonts by the CPU core wtf

@sir imo it's much better than a random per-user esteem that needs to be kept updated overtime

@hellpie just charge a flat one-time fee and fuck off

@sir good luck with that, fonts like Helvetica are never going to be sold one-time, they are way too valuable

@hellpie that's nuts when I can just use dejavu for free

@hellpie @sir can't they come up with some "non-transferable license" for which you have to pay monthly subscription and which is bound to the legal entity paying the subscription?
@wolf480pl @sir adobe has typekit that works like that but it's a pain in the ass to pay monthly, too.
But who cares the price, stealing is stealing and stealing to use it only in one paragraph of a whole website doesn't make it any better.

@hellpie @wolf480pl "stealing" digital assets from people who have unreasonable expectations of their buyers is not ethically wrong

@hellpie @wolf480pl @sir It's stealing if it's physical goods but if it's digital it's copying and copying is not stealing :smugsiptea:
